Painter |
Excellent pair of tintypes showing a young painter and what we assume is his sister and not his new bride. Her hands are partially hidden so we can’t see any rings. The highlight though is the slightly later tintype of him holding his large brush. We can see his childhood life has moved on as his hair has started to thin and his face is somewhat weathered. Instead of his suit he now wears his work shirt with a jacket although the photographer has tinted the buttons gold as possibly a sign of prosperity. We certainly notice he is a man now as opposed to the shy young lad in the earlier photo. The occupational image is in excellent minus condition with wonderful tones and contrast along with a hint of facial tint. A light bend seen at on the far right perimeter that just touches the bristles on the brush at the bottom. The other plate has some spots, wear and a few dings along with an old mat mark from a paper sleeve.
